Unlock VAG SFD Gateway with Topdon Phoenix Scanners

 Security Access protection system is used on the MQB2020 (MQB37W) platform used by VW Golf VIII, Audi A3 8Y, Skoda Octavia A8, Seat Leon MK4 and others. Here is the instruction of SFD unlocking on the new Volkswagen Audi group vehicles with the SFD protection. This is the process you need to follow and this is just an example.

We’re just going to unlock this gateway using Topdon Phoenix range diagnostic tool (Phoenix Smart, Phoenix Max, Phoenix Plus etc)!

Launch X431 PAD V/PAD VII and Thinkcar Thinktool series will also do manual SFD unlock, they are similar to Topdon coz the software is similar.

 

 

We will use it as an example ABS module common one for needing to unlock this SFD Gateway on these vehicles.

After scan the vehicle, enter 03 Brake Electronic module.

Select SFD(Vehicle Diagnostic Protection) Activation function at the bottom.

We’ll go Manual SFD activation.  We also need the VIN number and the module. We are in the 03 brake Electronics module.

Copy that original request code.

Benz 38 PIN Multiplexer OBD1 Pinout

Here is the wiring scheme of the 38-pin to multiplexer cable is as follows (Car end - Multiplexer end).


On the 38-pin end, the wires have round crimp connectors that slide onto the backs of the 38 pins. On the multiplexer end, each wire is soldered to a cylindrical socket for the pins on the multiplexer.

L-suite won’t do checksums on all ecus, but the common ones are easy to sort out with proper quick software.

 

So let’s begin, start by downloading Lsuite software from

It’s about 11mb, unzip it anywhere you like. Desktop or wherever.

Then we install vcredist_86.exe on that zip archive.
Time to start Lsuite, first time opened it asks.

Please choose dlls folder location. It uses Kess checksum calculating DLL library files.

So lsuite opens up and theres the dll archive allready which your going to chooce in same zip root archive.
Select dll folder and press “select folder”
Now press autodetect on in left corner.
Now we are ready to rock, so whats next?
Now go to firmware box.
Bin file: here you select your mod file.

Nice, now press run and it will calculate checksums, on some cases it wants to compare your modfile to original bin. If so then just select where that ori file is.
Let tool calculate and end result identification.
It will save that now checksumed file on same location where modfile was.

Xhorse MQB Adapter vs Yanhua ACDP MQB Adapter

 Both Xhorse and Yanhua ACDP have adapters for VAG MQB cluster. Which to choose? Here is the clue.

 

1. License:

Xhorse: Need to activate MQB NEC35XX license. Multi prog has this license built-in but have to combine device with vvdi2 or key tool plus to activate the license.

ACDP: Need to activate module 33 (for MQB NEC35XX) or module 34 (for RH850/V850)
Module 33 has some NEC35XX MQB, module 34 is for RH850 clusters.

 

2. MQB Solder Free Adapters 

Both Xhorse and ACDP have a set of solder free adapters for MQB NEC35XX clusters.

ACDP solder free adapters are significantly more compact than the xhorse adapters for storage, and their smaller size makes alignment much easier. Here is a solution to unlock a 48v battery after discharge.

 

Audi 48V battery repair solution:
1: Remove the battery shell and find the corresponding MCU. We remove the circuit board and find mcu chip 5644B.
2: Use programmers to write virgin data into MCU.
3: Use special charger to charge the battery to 48V.
4: Install the battery shell, use the Audi 48V test platform to test whether there is 48V voltage output
5: Load the battery, use ODIS to activate the battery, the vehicle can start normally. In ODIS diagnosis go to guided functions and close the charging contractor. hook up a 100 amp charge to the 12v battery, so it can charge the 48v battery. 48v battery has to be above 5% charge level. Below that you need to replace the battery. You could charge it, but you will need special tools.

 

You can read this mcu data from original battery module, modify the data, then write the virgin data back to the battery module.

CG100XXhorse Multi Prog will read and write Audi 48V battery module. But they cannot virgin data or repair module directly.

SMOK can do everything by its own, but have to pay for a license.

 

In CG100X software, go to Programmer->Motorola->MPC56XX->MPC5644B, check wiring diagram.

 Here comes the problem:

It is a BMW X5 F15 MY2017. One of our customers tried to add a spare key with Yanhua Mini ACDP2 and module 31 via OBD.

But ACDP failed to add key via OBD thru DoIP method. It said IMMO is not supported.
