How to Configure Subaru SSM3 SSM4 for SM2 Pro?

 How to get the Scanmatik 2 PRO interface to work with Subaru SSM3 and SSM3 software?

 

Here is the clue.

SSM3 is configured for Scanmatik 2 Pro – Only Install SM2 Pro Drivers & Select SM2 Pro.
SSM4 is configurated Passthru – Only Install Passthru Drivers & Select Interface.

You need driver/emulator for you to use a j2534 with SSM3.

For SSM4 you can use any J2534 VCI. Only SSM 4 supports J2534 interface.

For SSM3 the 1st thing you need to do is install Scanmatik Drivers, after start SSM3 and select SM2 USB.
SSM3 should close and when re-opening everything should work.

For those who want Scanmatik 2 Pro as an option in their Native installation, here is the setup file to those who like to have Scanmatik 2 Pro configurated to SSM3,

If you are using x64 then Download SSM3 x SM2Pro . rar  and run the x64 .exe in the VM. It should solve the issue.

The Interface must support old “PassThruSupport” (02.02 NOT 04.04) with registry entry. Then You must export this entry and import and replace it in Subaru Section under:
Right click and Export “PassThruSupport.reg” and upload it.

 

 

 

SSM3 and SM2 Pro some reports:

I can confirm SSM3 is working with Scanmatik 2 Pro 100% (tested on Outback diesel MY 2012). I was able to connect all available modules (although a main purpose was i needed to do EGR compulsory setting).

original scanmatik application easely connect to ECM and TCM. Read DTSs and params via ODB. Launch x431 too connect but can’t connect to Air Conditioner. FreeSSM can connet only to ECM and TCM.

If SSM4 ask key for activation, you can use WinSpy to activate it by yourself.

How to activate with WinSpy?

Run SSM4.
Run WinSpy.
In WinSpy, click Tree and in the window that appears, click Activation and Skip 2 times with the left mouse button.
Click on Command in the WinSpy window and enable the Enabled checkbox.

 

Feedback:

Before installation, set the date on the computer to July 1, 2021 and after installation, the date can be returned back.

To activate, copy the ssm4_loader.exe file to the c:\Program Files (x86)\subaru\SSM4\BrandCommon\Bin\ folder, display a shortcut from it to the desktop and run from it.

You can make SSM4 work with any J2534 capable device.

SSM4 is compatible with most SAE J2534 interfaces such as Autel Jbox, Snap-On passthru PRO, LAUNCH J-BOX, VXDIAG, Mongoose, Openport 2.0, VAS5054, GM MDI/MDI2, SM Pro2, Cardaq, Nexiq2 original, AVDI etc.

Just replace the DST-i DLL file with your device DLL. (and rename it)

Program Files/DST-i/Drivers/DSTIV32.dll

copy and paste j2534 dll (function library) into Program Files/DST-i/Drivers/DSTIV32.dll

copy original dll name and then rename it xxDSTiV32.dll

then rename your j2534 dll to same name as OEM dll thus tricking the SSM4 into thinking you’re using the SSM4 Device.

But to work with PassThru will be only SSM IV. Only SSM 4, cars from 2014 of release. SSM3 is only compatible with vxdiag subaru, Denso DST-i or Hitachi HDS3000 interface. For ssm4 you can make any J2534 interface. 

 

 

Feedback:

1). Just Replace the Program Files/DST-i/Drivers/DSTIV32.dll.

file with the AbrPT32.dll file and rename it DSTiV32.dll and it works perfect.

 

2).

I have a cardaq and have it working with ssm4.

 

3). Genuine AVDI works, no problem. Both SSM3 and SSM4.  SSM3 works with AVDI no problem. Just run the set passthruSubaru.exe in your Abrites start menu folder and choose SDI in the Interface box menu inside SSM3. There’s no need to edit registry or anything like that.

 

4). I can confirm that ssm4 works 100% with nexiq 2 (original). Scanning, flashing, everything works. Replaced and renamed the dll and voila!

Here’s the modified dll file for Nexiq2. It’s already been renamed so leave the name unchanged. You copy it and overwrite the original file in :

Windows x86 : C:/Program Files/DST-i/Drivers/

Windows x64 : C:/Program Files(X86)/DST-i/Drivers/

After that, Nexiq2 will show up in the list of multiplexers-make sure you choose Nexiq Usb Link 2 USB and the pass-thru option anytime SSM4 asks you. I highly recommend you ONLY use the USB option and avoid Bluetooth and WIFI , especially when flashing.

ONLY SSM4 WILL WORK WITH IT, SSM3 WILL NOT !!!

     

How to Use Openport 2.0 with Subaru SSM4?

 Tutorial: How to activate the HBA (high beam assistant) function on Subaru using Openport 2.0 passthru and SSM4 (Subaru Select Monitor IV) software.

 

I got an Openport 2.0 full chip adapter from obdii365.com to try and poke around potential hidden settings in my 2019 Subaru Forester (High beam assist, reversing mirror tilting, window close while locking, etc).  Since the adapter was pretty cheap, I thought let’s try it out. I bought the Full Chip version from this vendor. If need a professional job, vxdiag subaru is better.

I also downloaded the SSM4 18.1 version via a torrent I found in a forum. I had to turn back the date on the laptop to before July 2019 otherwise it would fail to install.

I installed SSM4 (Subaru Select Monitor 4) in a Win 10 laptop, the adapter is recognized correctly via USB. I also downloaded the drivers from Tactrix website, however, it apparently was not needed as Windows 10 recognized the Openport adapter just fine.

I have to choose the right Openport adapter to be used in SSM4 in the settings. It connected right away and determined the VIN number myself.

I had to use WinSpy to enable the “Skip” button on SSM4 since I did not have the activation code, instructions are on the forums where SSM4 torrents are published.

Last hurdle was that there was no communication between the adapter and the car, and that was because you have to select which adapter to use in SSM4.

Finally enabled the High Beam Assist function, which is turned off by default in my region (not sure why), still have to test it out and see how it goes at night.

Then just went to the Customization tab in SSM4, and started going over the possible settings, until I found the HBA in the “Body” section, set it to enable via “EyeSight”, not the mirror one, and then applied change, and voila.

Also added the remote key window close function, which was not enabled. Now I can close the front windows with the key fob even if the car is off, not so for the rear ones, which are not one-touch, for some weird reason.

 

What Tool to Program Subaru Outback 2020 2021 AKL?

 What programming tool supports Subaru Outback 2021 all keys lost? Abrites and Smart Pro don’t support it. What about Autel and SSM4?

Autel IM608/IM508 XP400 Pro

Blade Key AKL: Yes

You can see the AKL function under the immo tab for bladed types.

 

Smart Key AKL: Partially 

Autel adds all smart keys lost function for some models as of 2021 including Outback and Legacy with the large vertical dash screens.  

People have done a few even 2022.  You are able to generate analog key under smart key.

2020 Outback (new system) all keys lost was done by autel im508 and Apb112. Worked great. This was just added in the last update for this system.

Generate analog key then add smart key.

If you do the job with an autel with the help of the apb112 your AKL scenario becomes an add key scenario no need to smart box reset.  It reads the immo data from the vehicle and then creates a temporary smart key to turn on the ignition.  Then you add a new smart key.

 

If you cannot read eeprom to generate analog key for other 2020+ Outback and Legacy new system, you need to change new smart box and steering lock or access with SSM4.

 

 

Subaru SSM4:

SSM4 can connect to Outback/Legacy 2020+ new system. An 8-digit “Authentication Key” supplied by SBR will be a required input when working with SSM4.  Unlike the previous system where Teaching Codes have been unchanged, the new Authentication Key will change approximately every 6 months.   The new vehicles utilize an Immobilizer Type “G” or “H” system depending on model:

• G:  Vehicles with a turn key ignition switch

• H:  Keyless Access with Push-Button Start.

 

Here is the procedure to perform immobilizer-related repairs on the all-new 2020-2021 year Subaru Legacy and Outback.

Procedure:
Connect SSM4 device to the vehicle and start SSM4 application, from the Main Menu, select Immobilizer etc. registration, select the Vehicle then Immobilizer Type and Confirmed.

When the vehicle utilizes either a G or H -Type system, an Authentication Key is required to perform any of the immobilizer-related functions listed in the menu shown below.

Currently, for all other models, the immobilizer registration process is unchanged.

For 2020MY Legacy and Outback with a G or H -Type system, the Server Connection screen shown below will be displayed. Input the current Authentication Key and select “Connection”.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  

As of June 30th, 2022, the Authentication Key has been revised to XFT7DWTH.

Question: Upgrade Subaru SSM3 software directly to SSM4?

Answer: No, not possible. Please download the above SSM4 software and patch.

Question: Is the VXDiag Subaru diagnostic tool Worth it??

Answer: IMO it will be when you have an issue with any of the systems and can easily view live data and error codes. Or program a new key when you lose one.

Question: SSM3 had an error “can’t function without SSM4 being activated”…… I did upgrade Firmware once or twice in the past few months, this may have been the cause.

Answer: You have to make sure that you run ssm iii from the vx diag software, not just clicking ssm iii from the desktop or start menu. If you run either iii or iv from somewhere other than vxdiag you may need to re-run the vx diag crack and or reinstall.I don’t see anything that vx ssm iii can’t do that a dealer can do.

 

Conclusion:

I spend some time to read some users’ reviews of Subaru SSM3 software, they feedback they had some great success with changing some settings but sadly the access to all sections seems limited though…

” I initially wanted to change a few standards settings like the Lock/Unlock chirpand assumed the shrill chirp for other warnings was just a matter of getting into the ECU with SSM4 and activating it, it is there in the list when I look but I cant seem to get it to activate the Chirp”

“I wanted to activate TPMS but realise my module in the rear driver side panel that handles it is NOT a combined TPMS/Keyless entry type and mine is just Keyless entry.”

” I did adjust my fuel ranger to suit ACTUAL estimates to a more accurate percentage ( SSM4 allows this to adjust % of millage)”

=> So they are considering swapping one out to see if SSS4 will archive these performance.
