PCMFlash only covers EDC17 ECUs. No service mode for EDC16 so if that’s what you need, go for K-tag or New Trasdata Original. Both are great tools.
The Trasdata with EDC16/17 Service mode and can do almost every ECU on bench without opening.
PCM is great. Better use it with scanmatik 2 pro. For EDC17 it’s a little faster, as it doesn’t need to ID ECU everytime, does not look for correct plugin. Had two EDC17CV42 units, that Trasdata could not identify and thus, could not write (it read correctly) because it could not find correct checksum algorithm. PCM Flash did that ECU without problem.

Both are great tools, but if you need wider coverage on bench, go for KESS3/Trasdata. MEDC17 service mode is great, just hook up the ECU without opening it. All instructions and pinouts are built into the software.

Some use New trasdata for open mode and bench and kess 3 for obd.

 

How to Set up Dimsport New Genius for the 1st Time?

 The original Dimsport New Genius is a stand-alone device for serial communication with the Engine Control Unit (ECU) through the vehicle OBDII socket or via specific diagnostic connectors.

New Genius Setup and First Use Guide

Part 1: Set up Flashpoint Client

Connect the New Genius to the computer and power adapter

Start the setup program from the provided USB stick.

Choose your language.

Accept the license agreement.
You can leave this blank and click on Next

Click Install.
The installation process might take a few minutes.

Click on Finish and double click the “Flashpoint Client” icon on the desktop.
Accept the software license agreement.

The first startup might take a few minutes.
If FlashPoint Client detects new updates available, click Yes to install the updates.

The first update can take a few minutes.
Once finished click OK and double click the “Flashpoint Client” icon.
When this window pops up click on “OK”

Click on NewGenius in the top menu bar, go through Update, Load ABL and click on from Internet
Click OK to update NewGenius to latest version.
Click on OK once the ABL is loaded.

Click on NewGenius in the top menu bar, go through Update->System, click on Forced.
Click on Yes to start the DSUpdate process.

Update completed.

Double click the “Flashpoint Client” icon
Accept the software license agreement.
The installation and setup is now done.

Part 2: Read ECU data

Disconnect the New Genius from the USB port and power adapter.
Connect the cable to the machine diagnostic port.
Click on WORK on the New Genius touchscreen.

Then select Vehicles->choose vehicle type, i.e Tractor
Choose the brand and model.

Click on READING.

Switch on the dash-board, check the connections and press OK to continue.
Click OK when the machine’s information is displayed.
Click OK to proceed with the reading.

The reading process can take a few minutes.

Click OK when the reading is completed.

Reconnect the New Genius to the computer and power adapter.
Run “Flashpoint Client” software
Select Read NewGenius
Enter the machine information

Press OK
Press YES to send data to Race Manager.
Click OK to open the OUT folder.

The “OUT” folder contains all stock files.

Get your file modified by tunner and download on your PC.
Run “Flashpoint Client” software.
Press “IN” tab, click OK to import the modified file.

Click on the newly imported file to highlight it.
Click on “Write New Genius” to load the modified file on the New Genius.
ECU data writing completed.

Part 3: Write ECU Data

Writing the modified software on to the vehicle.
Disconnect the New Genius from the USB port and power adapter.
Connect the cable to the machine diagnostic port.
Click on WORK on the New Genius touchscreen
Click on Programming.
Click on WRITING.

The Trasdata tool is Dimsports bench tuning tool. (the Alientech equivalent was the K-TAG). This is the tuning device required when you need to remove the ECU for Boot mode tuning, or when performing service mode tuning direct to the ECU pins. The Trasdata is a good all-round tool with probe and adapters available to make connections as easy as possible.

Until now, there was not much in it between the combination of Alientechs Kess V2 and K-tag. And Dimsport’s Genius and Trasdata. Many tuners preferred the open file format of Alientech system leaving you free to use any editing software you wanted. Where as the Dimsport tools remained tied to their own Race2000 editing software. Limiting the tuners use and preference to software. The tie was eventually removed by Dimsport but only after many tuners had moved to other tools.

 

The Dimsport Trasdata is Dimsport’s dedicated Bench reading tool, designed to handle the ECUs that the Dimsport New Genius cannot access. To cover the entire Dimsport vehicle list, you’ll need both the Dimsport Trasdata and the New Genius. There is also DFBtechnology have a very reliable tool for all type of car-van-bike etc… but less obd protocols obd.
