Question:
Want to buy a genuine tool mainly for Bosch EDC16/MEDC17 on bench mode, need help choosing the right tool
1) Dimsport New Trasdata
2) PCM Flash original
When comparing New Trasdata and PCMFlash, the key difference lies in their overall capabilities and vehicle coverage: New Trasdata is a more comprehensive ECU programming tool with a wider range of vehicle support, while PCMFlash is a more focused, budget-friendly option primarily used for specific ECU flashing on a limited selection of vehicles, particularly popular for tuning purposes.
- Vehicle Coverage:New Trasdata boasts a wider range of vehicle makes and models, supporting various ECUs within a car, while PCMFlash typically focuses on specific ECU types within a smaller set of vehicles.
- Functionality:New Trasdata allows for reading, writing, and backing up the entire ECU memory, including flash, EEPROM, and serial EEPROM, providing greater flexibility for complex programming tasks.PCMFlash primarily focuses on flashing the main ECU memory for performance tuning.
- Cost:Generally, New Trasdata is considered a more expensive option due to its wider capabilities and vehicle compatibility, whereas PCMFlash is often a more affordable entry point for specific tuning needs.
- Professional automotive technicians who require a versatile tool to work on a wide variety of vehicles and perform complex ECU programming tasks.
- Shops that need to diagnose and reprogram various ECUs within a vehicle.
- Enthusiast tuners looking for a cost-effective way to flash specific ECUs for performance tuning on a limited range of vehicles.
- Individuals who primarily focus on tuning a specific car make and model.
PCMFlash only covers EDC17 ECUs. No service mode for EDC16 so if that’s what you need, go for K-tag or New Trasdata Original. Both are great tools.
The Trasdata with EDC16/17 Service mode and can do almost every ECU on bench without opening.
PCM is great. Better use it with scanmatik 2 pro. For EDC17 it’s a little faster, as it doesn’t need to ID ECU everytime, does not look for correct plugin. Had two EDC17CV42 units, that Trasdata could not identify and thus, could not write (it read correctly) because it could not find correct checksum algorithm. PCM Flash did that ECU without problem.
Both are great tools, but if you need wider coverage on bench, go for KESS3/Trasdata. MEDC17 service mode is great, just hook up the ECU without opening it. All instructions and pinouts are built into the software.
Some use New trasdata for open mode and bench and kess 3 for obd.
