How to Use APPRO2 to Change Benz HU7 Cluster Mileage?

 APPRO2 programmer now supports Mercedes Benz HU7 Instrument R7F701529 mileage correction function.

Here we will show how to correct the mileage for Benz HU7 cluster using the APPRO2 programmer.

 

Tools required:

APPRO2 programmer, USB cable, 12V AC/DC power supply, A15-RH850 V2 adapter (comes with FN0093 module),  MQB-5A adapter, A0C board and HU7 simulator.

Instruction:

Remove HU7 instrument cluster module from vehicle.

Here is a GLC(2024) – W206. The instrument panel is located under the driver’s steering wheel.

Disassemble the module and check if the processor MCU is R7F701529X.

Here, the processor MCU is R7F7015294.

Go to Mercedes menu- Benz mileage tool- HU7 function.

Step 1: Diagnosis
Read the instrument mileage.

Step 2: Check wiring diagram

Hit Weld (R7F7015XX) and check connection diagram.

Use the wiring that matches your cluster. Then connect APPRO2 adapter with cluster and device.
Need to connect 12V power supply to the module and A15 adapter.

Step 3: Enter Service Mode
Enter service mode and preprocess CPU.


Step 4: Read Config Data
Read MCU flash and Pflash data.
Save Config data.


Step 5: Calculate Service Data Online

Search config data saved in Step 4.
Input new mileage you desired.
Hit the Calculate button.

This step requires installing a simulator on the cluster. Check wiring diagram and install the simulator.
Then input a valid HU7 simulator serial number.

Save new mileage data.

Step 6: Write Service Data
Write new mileage data to the cluster.
Press Write Service Data function.
Upload new mileage data saved in Step 5.
Write new mileage data.



Step 7: Exit Service Mode.
Turn off the power and exit the service mode.

Step 8: Reinstall cluster back to vehicle and power on to test.

In sum:

• Yanhua ACDP and APPRO2 have similar functions, but they are different tools.
• APPRO2 is focus on VAG, BMW and Mercedes Benz key programming. ACDP cannot do Benz FBS3 IMMO. It also has less VAG coverage than ACDP.
• ACDP can do BDC2 all keys lost, 8HP gearbox and FRM, APPRO2 cannot. APPRO2 can do BDC2 mileage reset, ACDP does not.
• They both program 2015-2018/2018- JLR, new and old Volvo CEM, Porsche 2010+ BCM keys
• They both correct mileage for 2021- Toyota R7F7014xx and Buick BCM NEC3558.
• ACDP has more coverage for gearbox cloning.
• APPRO2 has a bonus feature to read some ECUs for many brands via OBD, bench or boot mode.

How to Get APPRO2 Check Code Online?

 When performing the BMW F/G series mileage correction function using the APPRO2 programmer, it will request a check code.

In the past, users had to send the random code to us to get the check code.

The time difference makes this inconvenient.

 

Now APPRO2 technician modifies the online server. Users will obtain the check code online directly.

 

How to get the check code automatically?

Update Appro2 software to latest version.

This function requires network connection.  The software will calculate the check code from APP2 server.

NOTE:

The server has a daily limit of 5 check code calculations. Additional requests must be calculated manually.

APPRO2 BMW G Series Mileage Reset Need A Filter?

 When resetting the mileage on a BMW G-Series BDC2 system using Appro2 or other compatible programmers, one critical question arises: Do you need a filter (mileage blocker) or not?

 

The answer depends on two factors:

1. Resetting mileage for the BDC2 module only or resetting mileage of both BDC2 and cluster.

2. The type of instrument cluster (full digital, hybrid, or mechanical). Whether the instrument supports OBD.

Below, we break down the key considerations for mileage correction.

 

1. BDC2 Mileage Reset 

All BDC2 units currently support mileage reset (using Function 0050).

APPRO2 supports BMW BDC2 mileage reset via OBD directly.

• No additional hardware (filter/simulator) is needed.

• Simply connect via OBD and reset the stored mileage.

1. Instrument Cluster Mileage Reset 

How to check if G series cluster mileage can be reset by APPRO2 via OBD or not?

1.Auto detection using function 0049. 

Connect vehicle via OBD, APP2 will auto detect if the cluster can be done via OBD or not.

2.If you don’t have car, check the cluster type. APPRO2 supports the following 3 types of clusters via OBD:

No filter required.

Limitation:

• • Only adjusts the cluster mileage (BDC2 remains unchanged).

  • “Asynchronous mode” means the cluster and BDC2 will show different mileages.

 

 

The following 2 types of clusters cannot be reset via OBD. 

For these unsupported cluster types, you need to add a filter or change the 35xx chip.

If you need to sync BDC2 module mileage data with instrument cluster (reset mileage on both BDC2 and cluster), you need to remove the cluster. It cannot be done via OBD.

You need to remove the cluster. Most of the full LCD ID6 cluster can directly rewrite the mileage in the cluster. Full LCD clusters can usually rewrite the eeprom data directly without filters and 35xx chips.

Mechanical clusters or semi-LCD usually cannot rewrite the chip data directly, and you may need to install an 35xx chip.

 

If you can accept the difference between the instrument and BDC mileage, observe the instrument types. If it belongs to the supported three types of instruments, you can directly use OBD without processing BDC, and there is no need to install filters and chips.

 

• If you only need the BDC2 changed → Use OBD (if supported).

• If you need BDC2 + cluster to match → Remove cluster + reset BDC2.

• Full digital clusters (ID6/ID7) → Usually no filter needed (direct EEPROM write).

• Mechanical/hybrid clusters → May require a filter or chip replacement.

How to install APPRO2 Software?

If Windows XP system, install APP2-NET3.5SP1 Plugin Package first.
APP2-NET3.5SP1 Plugin Package: This is a system patch required for running APPRO2 on Windows XP. Download and install only if needed.

Here, take Windows 10 system as an example.

 

Main steps:

• 1.Enable .NET Framework 3.5
• 2.Install setup
• 3.Install driver
• 4.Connect Device
• 5.Update software/firmware

 

Procedure:

Step 1: Activate .NET Framework 3.5 runtime in Windows

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off.
Select “.NET Framework 3.5”
Hit OK to enable .NET Framework 3.5 function.
Windows will now update the system (requires internet).

If fails to install .NET Framework 3.5, error code 0x80070422, follow the steps below to enable.Net3.5

Press “WIN+R” button, input “services.msc” command, click YES.

Drop down the list and find “Windows Update” service, right click and go to Properties. Select Automatic, Enable and Yes to enable Windows Update.


Step 2: Install AP2 Software Setup.
Install AP2_setup(English).exe.
Select Fresh installation.


Select the destination folder “Program Files”.


Ready to install AP2 driver.
Select Extract- Next- Accept license agreement.
Finish installing FTDI CDM driver.



Installation of the programming database is required to enable BMW G-chassis instrument cluster and BDC-FEM instrument functionalities.

Install FEM_BDC OBD database FKombDat_v1
For BMW FEM/BDC mileage correction via OBD.

Install BMW G series OBD database GK0mbDatV1.
For G series ID6 cluster mileage correction.

Step 3: Install ARRPO2 device driver
Skip this step if drivers were installed in Step 2.
While device drivers are typically auto-installed during first-time installation, certain scenarios (such as driver removal) may necessitate manual reinstallation. The driver package ‘APPRO2-USB_Driver.zip’ is available through the provided link, or within the ‘drivers’ subdirectory of the installation path.’

Open the Drivers folder and install AP_PRO_DRIVER_SETUP.exe to install the driver.


Step 4: Connect APPRO2 device
Connect the APPRO2 device to the laptop via USB cable in the package. Don’t use 3rd party USB cables.
Check if device driver is installed properly.
Go to Device Manager.
You will see “USB Serial Port(COMx)” and “USB Serial Converter” devices. It indicates the driver has been installed successfully.


Step 5: Update APPRO2 Software/Firmware
Run AP2 software on the desktop.

The software will display an update notification upon initial installation.
Click “OK”, and the software will automatically connect to the server to update the file list.

Select “Refresh All Firmware” (mandatory for first-time update), then click “Download“.
The software will now download firmware from the server (this may take some time). Do not disconnect power or the USB cable during this process. After the update completes, you may verify the device authorization status.


Green indicates an active/valid authorization, while red means the authorization is inactive/invalid.

APPRO2 software is ready to use.
