First of all, let’s check some table comparisons:

OBDSTAR P50 is standalone version, don’t need to drag a PC. CGDI tools are based on PC.

OBDSTAR P50 is good tool, with very good documentation for connection to unit, have frequent upgrades.
P50 will do some high-end cars, Maserati etc. Some airbag models still requires soldering.

 

CGDI CG70 is an airbag-specific tool, it only does SRS by CAN. CG70 covers more srs than cg100/cg100x. CG100 do more mcu, eeprom and odometer. CG100X is the update version of cg100, cg100x adds more srs, eeprom and mileage models (i.e MQB NEC355XX mileage).

CG70 software is simple and easy to use. No dismantling, no welding. cg70 have a lot of airbags without soldering.

 

P50 now supports 9500+ airbag part numbers (till Nov. 2023),  CG70 has less airbag part numbers than P50.

CG100 and CG100 are good tools and do good job for Asian cars Honda Toyota on bench.

In sum, each one has a option, all good at the end.

 

 

Both obdstar and cg release regular updates. Make sure to keep the software up-to-date in order not to miss the latest airbag modules.

 

Sometimes you need more tools, if cg100 does not contain some of ECUs, cg70 or p50 will do.

 

For most airbag units is to use any eeprom and mcu programmer, like carprog, iprog, Xprog or Upa. About 80-90% its a direct eeprom programming, sometimes you will find motorola mcu like HC08 family. Some newer units have spc560 or Renesas, those are harder and need special airbag programmers to make the job.

 What’s the difference between Scanmatik 2 Pro J2534 passthru original and clone?

 

SM2 Pro Original

SCANMATIK Pro 2 universal programmer can use with Moflash, or bitbox or pcmflash. Ori reads and write normaly via bench and obd. Original works with original pcmflash with latest modules. Clone does not.  It is possible to work with a large number of third-party programs that support operation via the J2534 interface.

SM2 Pro Original

Original is stable and works with all programs that support work with the J2534 protocol.

SM2 Pro Clone

 

There are two versions of SM2 pro clones.

They have different versions of purple pcb, the one with gold plated pcb is double the price of the tinned pcb.

 

Old SM2 Pro Clone (hardware version is 2.21.21)

Possible fw is locked and no Update possible. It is very cheap $68 with firmware and adapters.

Works ok with pcmflash 1.2 clone and genuine latest pcmflash.

Tested tc1766 and tc1796. med17 and edc17. But some ecu has no connection via OBD or bench.

Tested working with VIDA, scan system and read modules very fast.

New SM2 Pro Clone (hardware version is 2.21.22)

2.21.22 from April 14, 2022

new SM2 pro is this looks like much better then cloned scanmtik.

Works fine with xentry, even K line works on old EDC15 ecus. Also connects with Vediamo and DTS Monaco.

xentry passthrue connected with sprinter 907 2022 ok, Odis 11 ok, ista bmw ok, SDD ok, Forscan ok.

Don’t use V2.21.21 software with new sm2 pro clone. You will has USB hardware not supported problem. Old software is not not compatible with the v2.21.22 hardware. Downloading the latest 2.21.22 software from the official Scanmatik website fixed the problem. The device seems to work. Successfully read a Hyundai/Kia MEDG17.9.8.

Works really good and stable but with the standard power supply the bench cable did not work on auto settings because voltage was too low. With a better power supply @13.5 – 13.8v it now works as intended.
The provided power supply went straight into the trash can.

It came with the new 3 LED and 3-way switch version of the cable. However after that first read, the cable stopped working and the smoke was released. I opened the cable up and found a burnt transistor.

HW 2.21.22 has better PCB componenets than 2.21.21 old SM2 pro.

PCB board are different:

The old SM2 used poor quality components and chips,

New SM2 PRO+used the best quality components.

The old SM2 Pro uses a tin-plated PCB, the new SM2 Pro+ use a gold-plated PCB.

1. New SM2 PRO+ bench cable with Kline. it can write the old Toyota and Lexus which car with LLINE.

2. The bench cable with switch so that power supply can be controlled manually and automatically, and it is not easy to burn

Old sm2 use poor quality DB port, new SM2 PRO+ use White glue gold-plated DB interface.

In sum:

The new Scanmatik 2 pro clone only rework whole PCB, it is not original.

SM2 clone is not working properly. It doesnt communicate right and inside need a lot of rework it s not like ori one.

SM2 pro clone will make some jobs but SM2 pro original is the best for professionals.

 

 

FYI: You can rework the clone like this if no connection via obd or bench.

Can I Use Autoauth on European FCA Models?

 Question 1: How can I use FCA SGW on my Autel scanner? I’m in Europe. I see autoauth but is only for US.

Question 2: There is no way to use fca login for Autel on Europe?
Question 3: AutoAuth in Europe does not work on Autel and the question is do you have any other way?

Here is the clue.
Some users said FCA Autoauth does work on European vehicles.

You need to select USA when you specify the region even if you are in a different country. You’ll gain access through the Gateway and all FCA/Stellantis vehicles in your tablet will be available. Autel doesn’t have region specific tablets, they are all global versions with some exceptions for region specific software.

For example:
Here is an Autoauth account, registered and working on the Autel IM508s. An expert literally used it yesterday to diagnose and replace an ambient temp sensor on a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 and reset the oil life monitor after service.

Use Autoauth on European FCA 2

This requires a subscription and registration, or you use a Bypass Cable (12+8 cable to Star Connector). Star cable bypasses the sgw connecting scanner to diagnostic CAN lines on the star connector.

You don’t need to contact autel. You can go here, https://webapp.autoauth.com/ register account, pay your sub, go to shop profile, fill out detail. Next go to manage tools, click add, select autel, then all models, then add your autel tool serial number. It’ll save details to your account. Next time you connect to a car behind the stellantis gateway, it’ll ask you to log in with the autoauth account you created. Click remember user and login and it will remember your account for any future vehicles.

$50 sub gets you 5 users and 5 tools able to be registered. Vehicle access is unlimited.

edit: keep in mind you NEED internet access to log in and gain access through the gateway. The easiest for us if we are out on the road is just setup a wireless hotspot on our mobile for autel to connect through. Data usage is pretty minor.

Lonsdor Autel Xtool Zed-Full Locksmith Review

 There comes an unbiased review of some popular key programming tools by a real UK locksmith who has 10-year working experience.

 

 

Lonsdor K518– 

When this device came out a few years ago it was popular in Asia and USA. However, in recent times there has been more clarity and frequent updates. It’s a good all rounder and excellent value for money. Particularly strong in Toyota, Volvo, Fiat and Chrysler and will handle Ford, PSA, VAG and Renault up until 2015 and has many other brands it will cover. Using the emulators, you can do many Toyota all keys lost via OBD.


OBDstar X300 DP Plus – 

Probably the best bang for buck programmer on the market today. A great all-round tool which is known to be strong on Renault, Ford, PSA and Mazda. For a tool of this price to be able to do 2020 Ford Focus and Transit, 2017 Renault lost keys and read a pin from practically any PSA you plug in is unbelievable. Updates are frequent and very much focused on the EU market.


Xtool X100 PAD2 & PAD Elite (PAD3) –

The model range is very confusing as there are many different versions of the same device. The updates are coming thick and fast, 2 years’ worth included from purchase. Really strong on Asian brands, in particular Hyundai, Kia, Honda and Toyota. The recent Ford and Renault updates have been impressive and I expect many more updates over the next few months. The Pad Elite (PAD3) is compatible with the KC501 and can program Mercedes keys very fast, so for the money it’s a good tool. Not quite as refined as some other devices but once you find your way around it’s a solid machine.


Autel IM608 Pro (IM608) –

I have mixed feelings on this device, in some respects I think it’s excellent as it has such a broad coverage and the user interface is great. It has without doubt some of the most powerful diagnostic capabilities available from an all round “scanner” (whether you would use even 20% as a locksmith is debatable). However, if you don’t need high end diagnostic functions, I think it’s a lot of money for a key programmer. As with most devices, there is a heavy reliance on server calculations and this is where Autel suffers. There are so many occasions where the servers are so overloaded that programming cannot be carried out, or takes extremely long.


BossComm KMAX-850 –

This is a new device in the UK that many haven’t seen. Some of you may remember a diagnostic tool many years ago by BossComm, it was a good device in its day and this is from the same developer. For the surprisingly low cost of this tool it is very reliable and has great coverage. I used it on a Ford Focus 2019 spare key as a test and was surprised how well it worked. It is based on the Linux platform and has less reliance on the internet so it’s a good tool as a backup and comes with a pre-coding device. It’ll do VAG, Ford, Fiat, Honda and many more brands quite easily.


Zed-FULL – 

Every practising auto locksmith in the country should have heard of the Zed-FULL. For some people it is still the first tool they would plug in, for others it is a last resort. Without doubt it is a powerful device with a huge coverage, very easy to use and a plethora of functions. It is a token-based device and can work out very expensive, in today’s market I think token machines are only worth having if they do something other machines do not. A few years ago, that may have been the case with the Zed-FULL, but certainly not now. The other downside is that on some vehicles you must use an IEA key/remote so your hands are tied.


Smart Pro –

As most users found out the hard way, this device was released prematurely and left a lot of upset customers who had traded in a working device for a device still under development. I think that has changed now, it is much more reliable and has one of the best user interfaces of any of the devices mentioned. It is very good on Ford and can do AKL on Renault Trafic 2015- without bricking the BCM. It has a broad coverage and is easy to use, however it is token based so an expensive tool to use constantly. A good tool for a beginner, but still quite expensive for what it is actually capable of.
