7N0 gateways are installed in VW Golf6, Eos, Scirocco, Jetta2011+, Sharan2011+, Tiguan 5N, Touran, Caddy, Passat B7, CC, Skoda Octavia, Superb, Yeti, Audi TT, R8 etc models.
Here is the instruction to update gateway module. Only for sharing propose. You are at your risk. Credit to Russian contributors.
Gateways 7N0 are divided into 4 types by hardware and differ in the elements soldered on the board:
1. HH42, HH47, HH52, HH57
only support 5 main CAN buses
2. HH43, HH48, HH53, HH58
added LIN-bus LIN1
3. HH40, HH45, HH50, HH55
added two LIN buses LIN1 and LIN2
4. HH41, HH46, HH51, HH56
added two LIN buses LIN1 and LIN2 and added extended CAN bus (Extended).
LIN1 — used to connect the generator and battery control terminal.
LIN2 — for the panoramic roof control unit and clock in B7.
GATEWAY 7N0907530xx Information
Hardware versions НН40-НН53 can be updated to version 1642, and starting with HH55, you can fully update to the latest version 1682. Diagnostic address 5F appeared starting in software version 1663.
Many people have started installing new radios for the PQ platform, which have a diagnostic address that has changed to 5F. In the list of gateway equipment with software 1642 and lower, this diagnostic address cannot be encoded.
In order to be able to encode the 5F address, you need to update the software. Those who had a gateway 7N0907530AN with hardware version H56 are able to do this without consequences, they filled in the data block with fatigue control and everything works correctly. But those who had an older gateway after the update received problems in the form of a disappearing fatigue control assistant (aka “cup”) and incorrect operation of the battery control (fortunately, there are few such cars). All these problems are due to minimal differences in hardware, which are easy to fix.
For example, take Tiguan gateway as an example, it has the letters AJ and the hardware version H51.
We disassemble it and take out the soldering accessories.
Locate EEPROM
This gateway has an ATMEL chip marked 25320AN, there may be options using a 95320 chip manufactured by ST. The manufacturer is not important, both of these EEPROMs are essentially the same and work on the SPI bus.
The differences between the old hardware (up to and including H51) and the new H56 are in the memory capacity of this EEPROM, in the old it is 4 KB, in the new it is already 8 KB.
With the firmware of the gateway 1642 (these are the letters AN at the end of the part number), despite the 8 KB of memory, in fact, only half is used, so all old gateways are updated to 1642 without problems. Starting with software 1653 (these are the letters AS at the end of the part number), 8 KB are used completely.
The fatigue control assistant, and this is the name of the data block and the data block itself, as well as the battery control operation parameters are stored in those addresses that are physically not in the 4 KB EEPROM.
As a replacement, you can buy an EEPROM ST 95640WP, you can use ATMEL 25640.
Next, you should unsolder the old EEPROM, read it with a programmer (for example Autel XP400 pro). Write the data of the old EEPROM to the new one, so that the second half remains clean and solder the new EEPROM to the board. Do not mix up the correct placement of the EEPROM, so as not to burn it. The side with the bevel (with 1 leg) should face the processor.
Now you can flash the newest software and upload a data module with a “cup” and use it. Everything will work as on a full-fledged H56 hardware.
Another example:
Gateway 7N0907530M update to 7N0907530BL.
Disassemble the gateway, locate EEPOM XC2060M.
Read Flash0, Flash1, System with Autel IM508 XP400 pro.
The changes only Flash0.
Then flash module with ODIS-E.
How to Activate Driver Fatigue Recognition Assistant (MKE) with ODIS-E?
It could be activated using the VCP cable, it can also be done using ODIS-Engineering.
MKE activation files:
7N0907530Ax_MKE.xml for SW 1632, 1633, 1634, 1635, 1642
7N0907530Bx_MKE_ON.xml for SW 1663, 1674, 1682
7N0907530Bx_MKE_OFF.xml for MKE deactivation
