Tips to Repair Benz SIM271DE Engine ECU

 Here is the repair guide for common issues with the Mercedes-Benz 271 engine ECU (SIM271DE 2.0 and SIM271KE 2.0).

The Mercedes SIM271DE/KE is an Engine Control Unit (ECU) used in various 4-cylinder Mercedes-Benz models, including C-Class, E-Class, SLK-Class, and other 1.8L models.

 

Before repair these ECUs, always back up full data of the original ECU with programmers, i.e CG FC200Xhorse Multi ProgOBDSTAR DC706 etc.

Common Issue 1: Ignition Fault, Intermittent Misfire

Takes an example of SIM271DE ECU. Disassemble the engine ECU.

This is mostly caused by leakage from the two capacitors shown in the image.

Leakage can corrode the circuit board, leading to short circuits. The first step is to replace these capacitors.
Additionally, clean the surrounding resistors and check for any residual electrolyte.

After replacing the capacitors, inspect the ignition control chip on the other side of the board (as shown in the image). Leakage may have corroded the chip’s pins.

Remove the chip, clean it thoroughly, and test it with a multimeter to check for damage. If damaged, replace it; if not, clean and solder it back in place.

After replacement and cleaning, use a multimeter in resistance mode to measure the four shutdown resistors (as shown in the image) for any damage.
Short circuits can sometimes cause these resistors to fail. The normal resistance value for each is 33 kΩ. If the reading is incorrect, replace the resistor.

Common Issue 2: Throttle Body Fault

Symptoms: Occasional lack of acceleration, illuminated dashboard warnings (engine fault light, ESP light).
Diagnosis: The engine reports throttle body faults or accelerator pedal sensor faults.

If no hardware issues are detected, proceed with the following solutions:
Solution 1: Resolder the BGA chip shown in the image.

Solution 2: First, resolder the two throttle drive chips in the marked area of the image. If the issue persists after resoldering, replace these two chips directly.

Common Issue 3: Crankshaft Position Sensor Electrical Fault

 

First Cause: The fault is triggered by capacitor leakage (as shown in the image), which causes a short circuit in the ECU. Replace the capacitors and thoroughly clean any residual electrolyte from the board.

Second Cause: The chip in the image is damaged, usually due to short circuits caused by capacitor leakage. Replace the chip directly.
After addressing these issues, the fault should be resolved.

Here we will show how to correct the mileage for Benz HU7 cluster using the APPRO2 programmer.

 

Tools required:

APPRO2 programmer, USB cable, 12V AC/DC power supply, A15-RH850 V2 adapter (comes with FN0093 module),  MQB-5A adapter, A0C board and HU7 simulator.

Instruction:

Remove HU7 instrument cluster module from vehicle.

Here is a GLC(2024) – W206. The instrument panel is located under the driver’s steering wheel.

Read the instrument mileage.

Step 3: Enter Service Mode
Enter service mode and preprocess CPU.

Read MCU flash and Pflash data.
Save Config data.

Search config data saved in Step 4.
Input new mileage you desired.
Hit the Calculate button.

This step requires installing a simulator on the cluster. Check wiring diagram and install the simulator.
Then input a valid HU7 simulator serial number.

Step 6: Write Service Data

Write new mileage data to the cluster.
Press Write Service Data function.
Upload new mileage data saved in Step 5.

Turn off the power and exit the service mode.

Step 8: Reinstall cluster back to vehicle and power on to test.

Renault Clio V Zoe 2022 AKL BCM or HFM

 Question:

I have an all lost keys situation in a new Renault Zoe 2020. What module will be there BCM or HFM or both?

 

Here is the clue.

All 2019+ newest cars with Clio V platform (Clio V, Captur II, Zoe) are equipped with BCM (Body Control Module).If the car has smart card, the car will come with both BCM and HFM (Hands-Free Module). In this car, the immo data is stored in the HFM.
If the car has blade key, only BCM is installed and immo data in this BCM.
In all keys lost situation, you have to read HFM if car with smart card, and read BCM if car with blade key.

 

 

Where is the SGW security module installed?

Different model, different locations. Some behind the glovebox, some behind the dashboard.

 

Zoe 2019+ SGW Gateway solution:

The location is same as on Clio V and the Captur 2. Gateway locaton is behind the glovebox.

Remove glovebox, and reach, behind dash upwards,
It sits on top off the passenger aibag.


Renault ZOE HFM

on LHD the HFM is above the pedals, left side. You must remove the kick panel and some additional panels to reach the connectors.

Renault Clio V BCM (blade key) Location:

The Body Control Module (BCM) in a Renault Clio V is typically located behind the glove box, on the driver’s side of the vehicle. More specifically, it’s often found on the back side of the main fuse box, within the interior fuse box area.

What Tool will do Clio V, Zoe 2019+ all keys lost?

AVDI or OBDSTAR.

If all keys lost, need to remove the BCM or HFM module to read pin code from dump, then make dealer key and learn key.

How to Use Topdon Rlink with Honda i-HDS Software?

  Tutorial: How to set up and connect Topdon Rlink device with Honda i-HDS OEM diagnostic software.


Compatible devices:

Topdon Rlink Lite/Rlink X7/Rlink J2534 with Honda License

 

Procedure:

Download and install Rlink Platform driver from Topdon official website (CHECK HERE).
Connect Rlink device with laptop and vehicle.
Run Rlink Platform driver.
If the connection is normal, it will display that both the vehicle and the device are connected.
