Step-by-Step Connection Guide
Step 1: Install & Update RLink Suite
Download and install the latest RLink Suite from Topdon’s official website.
Connect the RLink device to your PC via USB and to the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
Open RLink Suite and go to:
"My Device" (top-left) - Check firmware version.
Update firmware if needed.
Step 2: Install J2534 Driver

Remove unnecessary drivers (e.g., Chrysler if working on GM). One system only accepts 1 software driver.
Install the GM-specific J2534 driver:
Go to "Driver Download" (bottom tab).
Select and install the GM driver.
Verify installation under "Driver Info".
Check your Rlink Suite and make sure you have ONLY the GM drivers installed.
Step 3: Launch GM Techline Connect
1. Run your web browser as Administrator (Right click on the browser icon and run the browser as an administrator. This ensures GM software can conduct necessary updates.).
2. Log in to GM’s Service Information Website.
3. Purchase a Techline Connect license (if not already available).
4. Launch Techline Connect (TLC) with admin rights (toggle "Run as Administrator"). Once you login to the GM portal, you will then luanch the software again with admin privileges.
Step 4: Check for Software Updates
Once TLC launches, it will automatically check for updates.
Ensure SPS2 (Service Programming System 2) is fully updated.
Once updates are complete, you should get this screen.
Step 5: Connect RLink to Techline Connect
Close Vehicle Selection windows for now.
You can attempt automatic configuration by clicking:
1). Auto Detect Tool
2). Auto Detect VIN
Select J2534 adapter
- Click "Auto Detect Tool" to manually search for the RLink.
- Alternatively, manually select J2534 under "Reprogram" mode.
Select "RLink" from the device list and click "Sumbit".
You should receive a window like this showing the list of possible devices to connect.
Select the Rlink, then click continue.
Step 6: Verify Connection & Begin Programming
Assuming the connection is successful, we should be back on this screen.
Once connected, the top-right corner should display:
- "Diagnostic Tool Ready – J2534".
- Auto-detect VIN (if needed) or proceed with module programming.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
