This is the keyless smart key from VW Transporter T7 2025. What device to program a new spare key?
It’s an ID49 Hitag pro 128bit nxp chip smart key.
It is identical to Ford. It’s same as new VW Amarok with Ford system.
VW Transporter T7 utilizes the new-generation Ford Transit system, while Amarok uses the Explorer system.
The electric VW e-Transporter T7 runs on Ford Transit Custom architecture under the skin — so the key system is completely different from older VW vans.
The key can be programmed by dealer software only.
Though it is Ford system, it’s a VW-branded item.
Every manufacturer has different rules.
For the VW Transporter T7 (2025+), which is built on the Ford Transit Custom platform (same factory in Turkey, shared chassis, powertrains, and much of the electronics), key programming is typically handled with VW’s ODIS dealer software.
You need to order from the dealer to chassis and then use Odis, you can’t use FDRS, the same as you have order the new style Transit Connect to chassis.
Why ODIS (not FDRS)?
The vehicle is sold and supported as a Volkswagen, with VW badging, interior tweaks, infotainment customizations, and VW-specific software overlays. VW dealers use ODIS (Offboard Diagnostic Information System) for diagnostics, coding, adaptations, and key/immo programming.
FDRS (Ford Diagnostic & Repair System) is for Ford-badged vehicles with Ford VINs. It generally won’t communicate properly with a VW VIN or may have very limited functionality on the T7.
Cross-platform twins like the VW Amarok/Ford Ranger show that the “native” brand’s tool (ODIS for VW side, FDRS for Ford) works best for full access, especially for keys, immobilizer, and security-related modules.
Practical Notes
Dealer route: Go to a VW Commercial Vehicles dealer — they use ODIS + genuine VW keys (often pre-paired to the VIN). This is the most reliable/supported method.
Independent shops with full ODIS access (and online VW credentials for security features like SFD) can often do it too.
Aftermarket tools (e.g., some that support Ford Transit Custom) may have partial success on diagnostics but are unreliable or blocked for key programming due to security.
If you’re trying this yourself or with third-party equipment, success is not guaranteed without proper ODIS setup. For lost/all keys or new immobilizer work, dealer-level access is almost always required. Check with a VW dealer for your specific VIN.
